ABOUT

Njeri moved to Chicago to study Theater design production and technology at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Taking up a focus in lighting design in her Sophomore year, Njeri began assisting lighting designers on UIC productions such as Hurricane Diane directed by Monet Felton, Urinetown directed by Monty Cole, Summertime directed by Bonnie Metzar and Exit Strategy directed by Eddie Torres. At the same time, she worked as an electrician, programmer and light board operator in the practicum courses. These experiences solidified her deep love for lighting design as she saw sets become a character of their own with the help of intentional lighting design from behind the light console.
In her final year, Njeri was given the opportunity to co-design for UICs production of Sweat alongside Duncan Hon and is currently working on a series of capstone projects alongside her University peers.
